Our PreK is state licensed and has four stars in the STep Ahead Recognition System (STARS) program.
Our program is play based and uses Vermont Early Learning Standards to plan the academic curriculum. Our focus is on social and emotional development, pre reading and phonological skills, early math skills, science and social studies. We use Fundations and Heggerty for English Language Arts and EngageNY for math. TeachingSTrategies Gold is what is used as an assessment, twice a year.
The kindergarten curriculum is based off of the VT Common Core State Standards.
For English Language Arts, we focus on phonological awareness using the Heggerty and 95th% programs. We also use Fundations to learn letter writing and sounds, which leads to our decodable reading program. For writing, we use the Lucy Calkins approach, as well as Keys to Literacy.
For math, we use Engage New York, supplemented by research based math games. Our curriculum consists of number sense, geometry and measurement, addition and subtraction and place value.
Our program uses the Next Generation Science Standards for science and Grade Level Expectations for social studies, to guide the curriculums.
